VDC now offers classes for ages 18 months through 5 years. Kindermusik is a music and movement program. Each week in class you will play, listen, and dance to music that will impact you and your child in profound ways. That’s because every song, story, and two-step has a carefully chosen purpose in this creative curriculum – one that’s designed to stimulate and strengthen the vital neural wiring taking place in your child’s mind, right now.

Creative Movement & Intro. to Ballet: Classes are designed to introduce the pre-school child to the world of dance and movement. Children will be introduced to elementary ballet vocabulary and will be encouraged to express themselves creatively through movement. Classes will promote socialization and listening skills and will help children develop an awareness of how their bodies can move. Props will be used in both classes to stimulate the imagination.

Pre-Ballet: Classes are designed to prepare children for their first classical ballet class. Children will be introduced to arm, leg and feet positions, gentle stretches and appropriate body alignment, while exploring basic ballet technique and terminology. Creative expression will continue to be emphasized at this level.

Ballet: A classical dance form which is the foundation for all dance. Classes will emphasize technique and proper body alignment, as well as flexibility, strength, grace, coordination, musicality, and performance quality. Students will also study ballet terminology and history.

Lyrical: Classes will combine both ballet, modern, and jazz techniques and will emphasize developing strength, control, and flexibility. Students will learn to express the mood or theme of contemporary music through physical movement.

Jazz: Classes will emphasize rhythm, coordination, strength, flexibility, and isolation of movement. The focus will be on learning proper dance technique, as well as improving performance quality.

Tap: Classes will emphasize rhythm, style, and sound. Students will study basic tap steps, combinations and rhythms with an emphasis on developing proper tap technique and producing clear tap sounds.

Hip Hop: This form of dance is seen on television in music videos. Hip Hop evolved out of street and break dancing and is characterized by its’ athletic and bouncy style. Hip Hop is done primarily to Rap, R & B, and Hip Hop music.

Theater Dance: Classes will concentrate on expressing emotion through dance. Technique will be studied, but the emphasis will be on performance quality or “telling a story” while dancing. Choreography will be to music from Broadway musicals, as well as the popular culture.

Tumbling/Acro: This class will develop students’ strength, coordination, and balance. Students will learn basic floor tumbling tricks such as front and back rolls, handstands, headstands, walk-overs, cartwheels, round-offs, etc.

*All classes are subject to change if fewer than six students are registered. Ages are to be used as a guide only. Technical ability and experience will determine placement of the student. Placement will be at the discretion of the Artistic Director and/or Teacher.
